I have the honour to invite your attention
to the enclosed notice in triplicate which relates to an
outstanding claim for Hong Kong Estate Duty against the persons named therein and to request that the necessary steps may be taken to effect personal service on each of the persons addressed. The present addresses of these persons are unknown as neither their former local legal representatives nor their present local estate agents are prepared to inform this Government on the matter. It is to be observed however that on the 23rd May, 1929,
Messrs. Deacons, a local firm of solicitors then representing these persons in the matter of the present estate, informed the Hong Kong Estate Duty Commissioner that the address of the Trustees' solicitors then was :
Messrs. Elvy Robb and Company, of 19 Bedford Row,
London, W.C. 1.
A notice was sent in December, 1931, by registered post addressed to the Trustees c/o Messrs. Elvy Robb and Company
and signed for by one C. Harding. I am advised, however,
that this does not afford sufficient evidence that the
notice reached the hands of the trustees and that personal
service of the notice on all the trustees must be effected.
With regard to the legal and other expenses
involved in effecting personal service, I have to request
you to be so good as to instruct the Crown Agents to meet
liabilities
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
SIR P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER, G.B.E., M.C., M.P.,
&c.,
